Rules Discussion: Rosters lock time. January 6, 2008

There was some discussion about when rosters locked each week. The current rule calls for the rosters to be updated before NFL games start each week.
Current Rule:
Owners must update their team roster on the web site before the start of play each week.
In Conjunction with the following rule:
IX) THURSDAY/FRIDAY/SATURDAY RULE
1. All owners must update their roster page on the web site at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the game. Owners may make trades and changes under the following conditions:
a) The change does not affect a player who played on Thursday/Friday.
Which simply means, rosters lock at 1 pm on Sunday.
Here is the proposed rule:
Instead of rosters locking at 1pm on Sunday, as long as a player is not locked because their game has started, NERFL Owners may make changes to their active rosters.
Thoughts?
if i understand this proposal you would like changes to be made during the game except for players who are actually playing in the thursday/friday/saturday game. seems to me the roster is not locked except for those players and changes can already be made
if i’m wrong then whats the big deal about waiting until the game is over to unlock the roster and make changes?
Actually, let me clarify. Some teams carry two players from the same team because of injuries and the game is at 4pm on Sunday. We lock rosters at 1pm but the NFL team decides on who to play and who to deactivate at 3/3:30pm… this rule proposal (which I sent in) would allow that NERFL Owner to adjust his roster before the start of the 4pm games so that they can have a full team.
ie: A team has two WRs who are 4pm starts… one plays for oakland, the other for seattle… Oakland deactivates the WR at 3:30pm… the NERFL Owner can make the switch and be able to compete because they have an available player.
NERFL historically locked at 1pm because all rosters were emailed to the Commish…. now, with ESPN LM, ESPN locks players 5 to 10 minutes before the start of games, so it is impossible to actiavte a player after their game has started. This proposed rule change would allow NERFL teams to have all of the data possible to put the best team they can on the field each week.
I AM IN FAVOR OF ALLOWING OWNERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE THEIR ROSTERS UP UNTIL THEIR GIVEN KICKOFF TIME.. ROSTERS FREEZING AT 1:00 JUST DOESN’T SEEM FAIR TO ME. NFL COAOCHES HAVE UNTIL THEIR KICKOFF TO SAY IF A PLAYER PLAYS OR DOESN’T, AND WE SHOULD TO SINCE WE ARE THE OWNERS/COACHES OF OUR TEAMS..
THE RULE HAS MERIT IF YOU ALL YOU DO ON GAME DAY IS SIT BY THE COMPUTER/ SOME OF US DO HAVE A LIFE OUTSIDE NERFL OR NFL FOOTBALL
SO IF ITS NOT GOING TO BENEFIT ME AS A OWNER BECAUSE I GENERALLY DON’T SIT ON THE KEYBOARD I’M AGAINST THE RULE
HOWEVER MUCH SENSE THE RULE MAKES
Yeah, I watch football and I love it. Besides, more NFL teams are using tandem running games and so a number of teams had the “handcuff” player this year due to injuries. Knowing who is playing and who isn’t is just as important as letting the other team know in a timely manner that they have an “illegal” roster.
I would rather beat a team that played me at full strength than win on a protest or by a team that got screwed because of an antiquated lock time. I have been told that I am to consider roster changes after 1pm as an illegal roster, even if the other owner in the game allows the move. That isn’t competitive balance, that’s technicality.
I agree with this rule because it gives every owner and opportunity to compete fairly and at full strength week in and week out… and it eliminates the need for the NERFL police.
