Rule Suggestion: Scoring January 14, 2009
Posted by nerf20 in Rules Discusssion.trackback
The Fugawi Frogz have proposed the following rule change:
Current Rule:
Rushing: 1pt every 10 yards, no bonuses
Receiving: 1pt every 10 yards, no bonuses
Catches: 1 pt for every catch
Proposed rule:
Rushing: 1pt every 10 yards, no bonuses
Receiving: 1pt every 10 yards, no bonuses
The Frogz submitted this rule suggestion before the deadline but asked to delay the discussion while they reviewed the discussions of other proposals and came to the conclusion that (as part of an honest discussion about the debate between the WR and RB scoring) ultimately PPR had to be discussed.
While I obviously took advantage of the rules that existed during this past year, I am VERY MUCH in favor of points per catch. I think it adds value to wide receivers and helps increase the value of tight ends that otherwise would be forgotten. Plus, it helps increase the point totals that running backs put up, if you pick the right ones.
Points per reception reward players in certain systems that might not get high yardage totals but do get high catch totals. It takes skill to catch that many passes, and those players should be rewarded for that.
The counter argument, as doug has made rightfully so in the past, is that if a player has 6 catches for 30 yards, then they are being OVER rewarded by getting just 9 points from catches.
Frankly, I don’t know how to deal with it other than to say, I see PPR as a better system than not having it. It made trading an RB for a WR difficult. It meant RBs were severely over valued, and as we have found out in different seasons, people value different players differently. There needs to be a way to measure them similarly – and PPR can help that.
We can also offer to return bonuses to RBs to help return the parity (1 bonus at 60 yards, 2 points at 100 yards, 2 additional at 150yards, etc.)
now that we have ppr i think it is disingenuous to think we should just eliminate it.
the rule should be left unchanged from last year and the onus should be on the team owner to figure out who will work out the best as wide receiver and not to look to increase the value of their running backs by decreasing the value of wr.
it is not broke/ don’t fix it
get rid of the points per carry proposal and lets move on
six months till training camp oorah
It may not be broke but it definitely has its flaws… equity; that is what I would like to see among the major positions (which is why there is a proposal to adjust the TQB scoring)… equity.
You come up with a system that promotes equity and I will be right there with you, until then, PPR in its current form devalues RBs
